CryptoLogic Incorporated is a Canadian software marketing firm. Cryptologic is one of the four large online casino software companies. It is based out of Toronto, Canada. The company was voted "Software Provider of the Year" by the people at the UK Gaming Awards.

The History of CryptoLogic

Cryptologic was formed in 1995, making it the oldest of the online gambling software companies. Its co-founders, Mark Rivkin and Andrew Rivkin, designed the original software in their parents' basement. This software was designed to handle online financial transactions.

After designing the software, the Rivkin brothers wanted to apply it to some real life business venture. They chose online gambling and found quick success. By 1996, the two had signed up Intercasino to their software service package.

Since that time, CryptoLogic Inc. has expanded out of Canada into the UK. It is partnered with William Hill PLC., one of the UK's name brand bookmakers. William Hill was the first UK bookmaker to have an online casino, thanks in large part to cooperation with Cryptologic. Since that time, Cryptologic has established partnerships with such disparate entities as Littlewoods Gaming and Playboy Gaming.

CRYPTOLOGIC LIMITED

On May 25, 2007, over 90% of the shareholders of CryptoLogic Inc. voted to establish Cryptologic Limited. This will be the parent company of the Cryptologic network. Its corporate offices will move from Canada to Dublin, Ireland. This move is meant to situate Cryptologic near to the growing European market. A spokesman for the company says this is about charting growth in "Europe and Asia".

The move is no doubt a reaction to the recent gambling legislation in North America.

CRYPTOLOGIC AND THE U.S.

Because it is a publicly traded company, Cryptologic Inc. does not take American players. This decision was made shortly after passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which indirectly bans offshore online casinos from taking U.S. players.

Cryptologic is listed on both the London Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ. Cryptologic Limited will begin trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange on June 1, 2007. .
