Sole Survivor at Online Casino
Going home with ˆ100,000 is Northern Ireland’s John Keown after he won first
prize at the 2011 Paddy Power Poker.com Irish Winter Festival. Keown bested the
other 395 entrants from land and online casinos at the main event of the
tournament, called the ˆ1,000 + ˆ100 Buy-in, which was held at Burlington Hotel
at Dublin. But it is not just the money that gave Keown the real fame; it is his
achievement for the title of a Paddy Power Sole Survivor, he was last man
standing in the tournament. Because of this, Keown, who is also fond of online
casino poker, received an additional ˆ20,000. Together with Keown at the heads
up table was Noel O’Brien, who is from the southern part of Ireland.
At the final heads up stage, it was O’Brien who was the chip leader at 3:2. But
it flip-flopped many times. When Keown wagered 500,000, O’Brien chose for all in
at 8d-3h against the key hand 4s-5h-3s. Keown became a favorite when he made a
call with Qs-7s, even if his two overcards and flush draw moved him behind the
game. What made him win was his Ace in Ad-5d, which bested O’Brien’s Kc-6c.
Keown described the game, loved by players in land and online casinos, as a real
battle. Relating his experience with O’Brien, Keown said that he has been
playing with O’Brien for a long time. He knows they are gamblers, and both of
them will really gamble, yet his card just happens to top the game, as other
plays in land and online casino poker.
But not all went home sad, aside from Keown; O’Brien, who also plays online
casino poker, received ˆ57,950, while the first one to exit the final table,
Colm Hayes, and went home with ˆ8,700; the total prize pot was ˆ395,000.
