Poker Malware Planted
Two information sites for land and online casino poker, Twoplustwo and High
Stakes DB, are involved in a controversy with Hochgepokert.com, a portal for
German poker information. The controversy started because of a discussion of the
allegations on a certain player from Germany who is believed to be
double-dealing during live tournaments. The modus operandi of this player is to
insert some type of malware into the laptops of some other players at the online
casinos when they are not watching their computers, he can then take advantage
of knowing their styles for the next competitions.
According to the allegations, this German player, through the malware, is able
to view the opponent’s hole cards in the next matches, through insertion of a
memory stick as it expels the devious contents at appropriate times in the game.
According to Hochgepokert.com, there are already two victims who regularly play
poker at the online casinos and are subject to these deceitful schemes. The
first one lost at least $350,000, while the other $40,000. The German site
nicknamed this London-based German player as Maximilian A. This has led the
Twoplustwo forum to speculate that the accused is Max Ashkar, who uses the
handle mexx86 at online casino games.
During a live tournament in Austria, the two who were compromised cornered
Maximilian A and he allegedly admitted to have done it. But when the police
came, he denied the allegations thrown at him. There are still further
investigations to find out how many players were the victims of Maximilian A’s
tricky schemes. Some suspected the number is already more than 10. Those at risk
are online casino poker players who abandoned their laptops for a short while
during live tournaments held in Europe.
