US Online Casino Hopes Stir
PartyGaming is a strong and long-standing name in the international online
casino and poker gambling industries. The company has a large base of loyal
gamblers and has successfully entered most of the major international markets.
The final frontier of sorts for all online casinos, though, still remains
stubbornly closed to offshore gambling thanks to the efforts of the US
legislators. The US internet gambling industry once thrived in a mostly
unregulated market and offshore gaming sites were making hand over fist in the
money department as US gamblers enthusiastically used their bank and credit
cards to fund internet gambling. Once the UIGEA came into place, however,
offshore online gambling dropped down to a trickle and the foreign sites
withdrew from the US market out of both respect and fear of US prosecution.
In the past three years since the UIGEA took effect the online casinos have
helped to create a strong movement in the US market toward pushing a legalized
and regulated US market. PartyGaming is one of the offshore companies now vying
for reentry into the US market by settling up old debts with the US Department
of Justice. The DoJ specifically picked out several key names in the online
casino industry and began legal action against the sites for their pre-UIGEA
actions in the US market. PartyGaming has long negotiated with the US officials
but only this month seems to seriously be working toward a settlement amount.
PartyGaming, like several of the other online casino gambling companies that
were targeted by the US government, agreed to settle with the US officials
because the gambling group does not want anything to stand on its record that
would act as a black mark toward eventually receiving US licensing should the
new bills ever make it to the floor of Congress and pass through into law. |
