Betfair's Aussie Request
Betfair is one of the largest international online casino betting outlets in the
world. The company has a corner on the betting market and has developed a strong
relationship of trust not only with gamblers, but with individual governments as
well. Betfair is a clear leader in the market and the company is particularly
well equipped for the task in terms of tracking software. Rather than just
offering up wagering and betting on sports, Betfair has taken an incredibly
socially responsible position and tracks betting patterns to ensure that online
casinos, betting and gambling are not compromising the integrity of the sports
on which players are betting. In a bold move that has a lot of critics focusing
on Betfair, the company’s key Australian leader, Andrew Thwaites, is calling for
a national betting register in the country.
Thwaites contends that the only way for Australia to truly track bets and fight
corruption in the sports is through a central betting account system. All
players who want to gamble on a sporting game in the country would have to first
jump through all of the hoops necessary to register for an account – ie
verifying name, address and full player identity. Australia has made headlines
because of the country’s treatment of the offshore online casino gambling
industry and this new approach to betting is going over just about as well as
the internet gambling suggestions.
The case is fair though and not at all comparable to the online casinos, Betfair
is accurate in assumptions, with a national betting account register the
government and sporting organizations would have a more clear ability to track
the IP addresses and wagering of all Aussie citizens, ensuring that members of
the AFL and other organizations are not participating in the corruption of the
game. |
