One More Reason
If you were to take a global opinion pole of how the United States is viewed by
the rest of the world there would be some pretty mixed reactions…and there is
little hope that the results would be entirely favourable. The image of the US
took a real beating during the Bush administration in particular and the world
has had a hard time forgiving the US and US politicians now that the Afghani war
is still in the mix and the US still has troops in Iraq. These are all pieces of
the puzzle, but really it comes down to the way that the US government handles
even the smallest policies and issues, like the online casinos. The world
outraged at the 2006 UIGEA and the essentially monopolistic and protected market
that the US fostered with this controversial piece of legislation since offshore
online casino gaming sites were blocked.
Since 2006 the US government has had countless opportunities to fix the blunder
that is the UIGEA and yet politicians have only just begun to debate the
validity and constitutionality of the UIGEA and blocking offshore online
casinos; just now after more than three years banned and blocked with no firm
movement in Congress. Now the rest of the world, and particularly those
countries that have lost revenues because of the US’s decision to back out of
the international online casino market, are watching as individual US states
begin to regulate and legalize intrastate gaming.
The thing is, it’s just so contradictory and a bit ridiculous that the US
government has still blocked offshore online casinos considering the activity
has begun to flourish on the black market and only the less scrupulous and less
prominent internet gambling companies are servicing US players. It stands as
just one more reason that the US has an unfavourable opinion overseas. |
