PPA Fighting Against Regs
The Poker Player’s Alliance in the United States is one of the top organizations
that has been constantly vocal about educating the public and the politicians
with details about the online casinos and internet poker gambling industries.
Lately the debate has really been heating up though because the UIGEA
enforcement regulations will actually affect poker transactions as well –
something the PPA has fought hard to keep from happening. The PPA asserts that
the game of poker is fully different from the chance games at online casinos and
thus not subject to the authority of the UGIEA.
Politicians who have enforced all of this ridiculous legislation in the first
place though are currently asserting that poker is actually the root of all of
the issues – that the game of poker is far more addictive and evil than the
online casinos and therefore fully blocked as a part of the UIGEA as well. In
fact though, internet poker often touts itself as a skill based game that
counters some of the dangers of the online casinos by allowing players to use
strategy and learned skills to play better. But despite research that points to
these facts about internet poker the head of the US anti-gambling movement,
Spencer Bachus outrageously noted, "Internet poker is the crack cocaine of
gambling.”
The debate is really heavy right now as the US politicians duke it out in the
rooms of Congress to see which side will maintain the upper-hand, the UIGEA and
anti-online casino supporters already have the upper hand because the
legislation has passed and has an implementation deadline. The real challenge
for the PPA and others is to prevent any further action and any further support
for the UIGEA. |
