Online Casino Point Nicely Illustrated
Even in a highly regulated and monitored gambling industry there are bound to be
issues, player disputes and bankruptcies that require the interaction of
regulatory officials. The US land gambling industry is highly regulated and
players know that they have methods of recourse when they are wronged by a
gambling group. That same policy should apply to the US online casino gambling
industry, but it doesn’t because of the controversial UIGEA which ineffectively
bans offshore gaming sites from conducting transactions with the US market. A
recent land gambling dispute in Nevada, however, nicely illustrates just why
it’s so important to have regulatory bodies in place to deal with disputes and
resolve some of the trickier cases.
The Nevada Gaming Commission interceded on a gambler’s behalf earlier in the
month in official proceedings brought against a Las Vegas land casino, Fred’s
Tavern 2 for contravening Nevada gaming laws that dictate that players must be
promptly paid out by the gaming sites. A disgruntled player took the case to the
Nevada gambling regulatory authorities because the land casino refused to payout
the player’s $300 in a prompt fashion. The Nevada authorities took action on the
case and were forced to serve Fred’s with three separate warnings and demands
that the company pay the player before the player actually received the check
last fall.
This sort of action is severely lacking in the US online casino gambling
industry – as is the follow up action. The State Gaming Control board and the
Nevada Gaming Commission fined Fred’s Tavern $1,000 earlier this month for the
entire debacle. |
