L&G Hoping to Stop US Action
The Leisure and Gaming online casino gambling and betting group out of the UK is
the latest of the companies to find itself under the harsh scrutiny of the US
Department of Justice. The US government has been slowly combing through all of
the internet gambling action that took place in the US market before and after
the UIGEA was implemented and has begun to pointedly go after a handful of
offshore online casinos that participated in the US gambling market. L&G is the
latest of these companies facing US scrutiny and, like all of the gambling
groups, there is a certain element of worry in the entire process. L&G has
suffered a tough Q1 2010 with profit margins down lower than anticipated and the
management at L&G are focused intently on dealing with the US officials and
finding a resolution to the US investigation.
The efforts in the US market are not exactly threatening, because L&G has
already identified previous internet gambling holdings that were sold prior to
the 2006 ban on offshore online casinos. The US officials have essentially
cleared L&G of those issues, but now, L&G is looking to ensure that the company
has an impeccable record within the US as the rumors swirl that Congressman
Barney Frank is still actively working to legalize US online casino gambling in
the very near future.
L&G’s current negotiations with the US officials are intended to clear out any
remaining issues that could potentially stop the online casino gambling group
from obtaining US licensing once new US policies pass. All of the talk and
speculation right now has made some companies urgent to clear the air before the
licensing process begins. |
