Fall Elections Highlighting Gambling
The United States has heard a lot about the current controversial state of the
US internet gambling industry in the news media as politicians fight the
implementation of the UIGEA enforcement regulations. But really, if industry
analysts are right, the US market ain’t seen nothing yet. Predictions indicate
that politicians could very well use the US internet gambling issues as a
platform demonstration of current debates that center on Constitutional granted
federal powers. There are many politicians who feel that the Republicans are
pushing too much federal control with their anti-online casino gambling bills –
some feel that the issue shouldn’t even exist within the US federal government
and that this is actually an issue much better suited for control at the state
level.
What that means for the US voters though is that the online casinos could
feature very prominently in the upcoming state elections. Gamblers and US
citizens will have a chance to really voice their opinion at the poles by
displaying their displeasure with the US politicians who have been pushing the
UIGEA federal level controls over the offshore online casinos. The big debate
calls into question whether US Constitution limits federal powers in regard to
the internet gambling industry – some say that there is a need for federal
controls to prevent corruption and protect US gamblers, others feel this control
is invasive and that it’s long overdue that the US government hand internet
gambling laws back over to the US states.
As much as this online casino gambling debate does legitimately include debate
on the limitations of federal powers, there is a chance that the focus on
constitutional freedom to choose could derail some of the momentum that the two
pro-legalization bills have gained in Congress. |
