Gist of Issue
The IT staff at Tokwiro Enterprises are on full alert this week as the company
attempts to make some significant overhauls to the encryption software used on
the Cereus Poker Network. This scurrying comes as a result of a major bombshell
dropped by the Poker Table Ratings online casino information portal earlier in
the week. Poker Table Ratings released a press release to warn players that the
Cereus Network’s encryption method was vulnerable to hacking and that it was
possible for a cheater to see the hole cards of a poker opponent by tapping into
their network and seizing control of their account.
Poker Table Ratings released the update as a major warning that players should
completely stop all online casino and poker gambling activity on the network’s
two main sites, Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet. The bulk of the identified
issue comes down to the fact that Cereus has chosen to use XOR encryption for
their the transmission of sensitive data on their network. XOR encryption may
work for some industries, but within the online casinos and poker sites, SSL
protocol is in the industry standard.
With the threat now exposed, Tokwiro Enterprises is working around the clock to
find a fast solution. An immediate and temporary fix was put in place within
hours of the announcement, while Tokwiro then announced that the full switch to
tighter encryption protocol will be implemented within a week. Players are
rightfully torn about the safety of continuing to use Cereus – this is the
second major flaw, but certainly just a serious with implications as the first. |
