Right2Bet and Online Casino Freedom
The Right2bet organization is an advocacy group within Europe that strongly and
pointedly supports the rights of the gambling companies to fair access to an
open European Union market. The EU stands on the tenants of free access between
EU member-states of all goods and services and yet the online casinos are a
sticky issue right now that has controversial created fractions between the
countries. Right2bet has recently taking on France and feels that the French
government is actually only playing games – the country is not seriously
committed to creating a fair and open market that welcomes online casino sites
licensed out of other European Union member-states.
The French government has put on a good dog and pony show over the past several
months as the new regulations passed through into law, but these planned
regulations have not stood up to scrutiny and even the EU has said that they are
not acceptable – they still place too many restrictions and unfair taxes on
offshore sites. The core tenants of the new French online casino gambling
industry is that the non-French gambling companies must obtain French licensing
before they can operate within the market, and then they have to pay incredibly
high taxes.
The taxes are the controversial part of the entire equation. Right2bet, along
with all of the offshore online casinos have noted that the French taxes will
make it impossible for foreign sites to make any sort of a profit within the
market – a move that only enforces France’s long-standing land and internet
gambling monopoly. |
