Ethical to Target Developing Countries
Ethics within the online casino gambling industry is one of those topics that
really rarely comes up a lot, and for good reason, the vast majority of sites in
the world are operating under umbrellas of social responsibility and thus behave
with ethics at the forefront of their company policies. But what about some of
the accepted industry practices that no one really talks much about but that
push the boundaries of ethics? Namely, the fact that most of the major internet
gambling groups salivate at the thought of entering developing regions of the
world and offering internet gambling services to these gamblers. Is this
practice ethical? It’s certainly a widely accepted industry practice, but that
does not necessarily mean that the companies should be operating this way.
Developing nations are in a unique and dynamic situation – some have overcome
major wars, revolutions, and internal political and military strife within the
past couple of decades and are literally pulling their economies out of the
gutter. Their citizens have never before conceived of the convenience of the
online casinos for their small leisure income and that’s if they have a leisure
income at all. And despite this clear poverty, and the clear assumption that
these citizens have much better things to do with their money, the online casino
sites persist and push their products and services.
It’s just so tough to know. Clearly every individual has the power of choice,
even where the online casino industry is concerned, but do these countries
operating from the comfort of the developed operate under the full scope of
ethical considerations when they target their services at countries in Central
America, South Africa, and Asia? |
