China's Dodgy Plans
The Chinese government has really stepped up its actions and plans to censor
internet gambling content much to the outrage of the rest of the world. The
Chinese officials have stood strongly beside their right to strongly censor
internet content from the Chinese citizens. The problem though lies in the fact
that the Chinese government plans to censor far more than just the online
casinos, but also information, news, and any anti-China sentiments. The Chinese
government believes in keeping its citizens grossly uninformed about a whole
range of political issues and blocks and filters out a range of foreign news
portals so that the Chinese netizens are unable to access this “inappropriate”
content. The online casino gambling industry is being used as a scapegoat for
the planned censorship and filtering, but really that is just a small piece of
what the officials will put on the blocked content list.
The foreign news and several prominent international companies have been
incredibly critical over the planned firewall and Chinese officials have come
into very public media clashes with Google. Google fundamentally opposes this
level of censorship and has informed the Chinese officials that the search
engine itself will block out search access to the online casinos and gambling
sites. This was not remotely sufficient though for the Chinese officials and
China still vows to seriously strengthen the firewalls and censored content to
fully keep not only the online casino sites out of China, but also all of that
negative news attention that has been brewing in international media.
The Chinese officials are really specifically attacking the online casino
gambling industry because it’s an easy out for one. The government claims that
the more than 400 million dollars leaving the country for foreign gambling
operations is unacceptable and the country needs that money to stay within the
Chinese economy. For this reason, the government will implement these
controversial blocks unless the Chinese citizens can find a way to stop the
planned firewalls. |
