Dissention in the Ranks
A hot topic in the online casino gambling industry these days is the dissention
growing in the Republican party about the internet gambling industry.
Anti-gambling measures are a cornerstone policy of the Conservative party, and
yet an increasing number of Republicans have joined the efforts to actually
repeal the Republican pushed UIGEA that was half-baked and pushed through into
legislation without proper forethought. Now though, several prominent
Republicans have actually co-signed on the mostly Democratic supported gambling
bill led by Congressman Barney Frank, a bill that will reverse the controversial
UIGEA and instead license and regulate the US facing online casinos.
Very right-wing Republicans have actually begun to eye the online casino
gambling issue quite warily because of the inter-party dissention that has
arisen over the issue. Traditionally Republicans are against all forms of
gambling, and yet really the UIGEA only tackles online casinos, with no moves
toward land gambling – and what’s more the UIGEA is costing the US government
millions to enforce and yet actually doing very little good in stopping the
gambling market. The libertarian streak in the Republican party is a result of
policies that have simply gone too far, the UIGEA is flawed and does not
accurately address the current needs of the US gambling industry.
The dissention could actually lead to a big fracturing within the party if the
politicians are not careful – making the online casinos a platform issue would
be a serious fallacy because there is no telling which side the majority of the
party would fall. |
