Denying the Lawsuit Claims
In a move that will surely turn the lawsuit into a media frenzy, Harrah’s
Entertainment has officially entered the fray with a public statement noting
that the company did not breach its contract with the Everest Poker online
casino gaming site. Earlier this month Everest Poker announced that the gaming
company was filing a lawsuit against Harrah’s Entertainment because of an
alleged breach of contract concerning sponsorship of last year’s World Series of
Poker. The WSOP event is the largest land tournament of it’s kind in all of the
world and the top poker pros all compete; it’s a fantastic opportunity for
exposure for online casinos and even land poker gambling brands.
Everest Poker claims that Harrah’s Entertainment breached the $22.5 million
contract that the poker site had to fully sponsor the WSOP event. The initial
claims out of Everest have been substantial and there was a brief period of time
where Harrah’s had nothing to say about the pending litigation. The online
casino poker site specifically claims that Harrah’s breached its contract with
Everest Poker by prominently displaying the logo of one of Everest’s top
competitors during the WSOP event. According to the sponsorship contract Everest
claims that the online casino poker site had full rights to all of the poker
felt being televised during the game. Everest Poker claims that the France ESPN
affiliate electronically replaced the Everest Poker image in all of the
televised WSOP coverage and instead inserted the logo of Full Tilt Poker.
On the flip side, Harrah’s Entertainment claims that the company did not
guarantee the French coverage as a part of the sponsorship deal because of the
lack of valid French licensing. The company claims that specifics within French
legislation meant that Harrah’s could have had no prior knowledge that the
French station planned to edit out online casino poker site’s brand and logo. |
