Cricketers Love Online Betting
India is a land of extreme diversity and an even more
extreme division of the classes – the rich and the poor in India display very
different patterns and habits, particularly where spots betting is concerned.
Online casinos and betting is technically illegal in India, which goes over fine
with the vast majority of the bettors in the country who religiously use the
corner betting shops to place their wagers. But for sports like cricket and
other major international games the demographic is a bit different and the
internet bettors are prone to using illegal online casino betting sites rather
than the abundance of land betting venues.
The current IPL Twenty20 series in India has illustrated the sheer volume of
online casino bets that are actually coming out of the country for some of these
huge national games. Cricket fans have been going a bit sports crazy over the
Indian Premier League tournament and one UK online betting company noted that
the company will process through GBP 4 million in bets from India just in
relation to this major tourney event. The IPL tourney is a perfect example of
why India really needs to consider more progressive legislation where the online
casinos are concerned; the gambling is happening and yet the only controls in
place to ensure that the transactions are safe and fair are outside of the
country.
The fact of the matter is simple, the foreign online casinos and sports betting
sites are legal in their own countries and jurisdiction and are quite willing to
take bets from India. This lax attitude is directly related to the fact that
India has never yet really enforced any of the anti-internet gambling
legislation and therefore it’s not wholly on the minds of the countless Indian
cricket enthusiasts placing their bets. |
