Online Casino Contract Awarded
Playtech is battling for a lion’s share of the international online casino
gambling industry this week with the announcement that Playtech won its bid for
the four-year Finnish internet gambling contract with Rahaautomaattiyhdistys
(RAY). There is a pretty big battle of the software development companies these
days and Microgaming has scored some pretty major exclusive licensing and
partnership deals that will allow the company to expand into currently closed
and exclusive market. The RAY deal marks a bit of a coupe for Playtech as this
company is right up there in terms of respect and reputation amongst the
international online casinos. Additionally, the Scandinavian market is really
hard for new gambling sites to break into because of Monopolistic gambling
policies, so this Finnish contract with RAY will give Playtech significantly
exclusive access to Finnish gamblers.
Finland is only just now beginning to enter the online casino gambling market
and RAY is the first company to officially receive approval from the Finnish
government to launch a Finland-focused gaming site. RAY is the prominent
government approved gambling monopoly in Finland – the company has been vying
for a license and approval from Finnish authorities for quite some time and
finally received the approval in February 2010. Playtech has been chosen to
power RAY’s new online casino gambling site with the company’s award winning
EdGE gaming platform.
In addition to chance games the Finnish market will have a full compliment of
online casino poker gambling and even Playtech’s integrated and complimentary
mobile gaming software. This heralds an incredibly new market for Finland that
will really give Finnish players the opportunity to now operate within the
boundaries of the law – since Finland stands in opposition to the European
Commission’s requests for an open internet gambling market players are not,
technically, permitted to gamble outside of the state monopoly. |
