Will Federal Government Care?
The US federal government passed some of the most controversial online casino
gambling policies in the world and yet now it seems as though the government is
losing the will to actually continue enforcing the flawed regulations – at least
not domestically. The recent recession has forced a handful of US states to
consider the legalization of internet gambling markets as a way to support state
budgets. But as these states develop regulations that will fully regulate
intra-state online casinos and internet poker and betting sites, analysts are
wondering what the federal government has to say about all of this. The answer?
Not a whole lot. The US federal government has not examined the new regulations
in New Jersey and other states that will specifically contravene the US’ UIGEA.
The new bill within New Jersey would really revolutionize the role that online
casinos play in the US market – New Jersey Senator Ray Lesniak has structured
the bill to create a large and diverse internet betting market while also
allowing the state’s licensed land gambling venues to operate these services
through the internet as well. New Jersey is home to Atlantic City and that means
that all of the land casinos in the state will have the right to use their same
land operating licensed to also operate an online gaming site for New Jersey
residents specifically.
As much as New Jersey’s plan will greatly help the state boost revenues and
taxes funding the state budget, critics assert that these states should be
assisting in efforts to federally legalize and license the online casino
gambling industry rather than the smaller state-regulated markets that are
beginning to crop up. |
