iPhone Betting Capabilities
The war against the online casinos in Australia has been taken to a whole new
level this week with the announcement of new betting iPhone application released
by the largest betting company in the country. Senator Nick Xenophon is
prominently pushing an agenda to block online casino and internet gambling from
the country through ISP censorship that would completely force internet gambling
sites out of the market. Interestingly though, not all companies are in accord
with Xenophon’s efforts, particularly the internet betting industry in the
country. The internet as a medium provides incredible revenue potential for
gambling sites in the country and could really boost TabCorp and other company’s
revenue streams.
The new iPhone app is long overdue for Australia even in light of all of the
online casino gambling controversy. Australia has a robust land betting market
that is really only recently moving fully into the internet realm. And though
Tabcorp is fighting to keep online casinos out of the market, the company fully
supports the allowance of internet betting at licensed Aussie betting companies.
The iPhone application will allow any iPhone user to download the app and play a
range of gambling games as well as a selection of betting capabilities on horse
races in the country.
Xenophon denounced this new application release on the grounds that it more
easily puts online casino betting and gambling in the hands of children. iPhone
apps have less control over age verification according to Xenophon and there are
strong chances that Tabcorp is more easily enabling underage betting in the
country, Xenophon’s primary reasoning for attempting to block all forms of
online and mobile betting. |
