Catholic Confessions, How Bizarre
In one of the strangest moves from the online casino gambling industry, and the
Catholic church as well for that matter, Paddy Power has announced that the
internet betting and gambling site has sponsored a Catholic confessional box at
a church in the UK. In return for a generous donation Paddy Power has now
received an actual plaque with the company’s name in return that will sit at the
church. The decision comes off as a bit bizarre considering the fact that the
Catholic church is not a huge supporter of gambling – neither land nor online
caisno gambling – and yet now there is a full plaque at Suffolk’s Our Lady and
St Etheldreda Church in the UK.
The decision to sponsor the Catholic confessional box was not taken lightly by
Paddy Power, the online casino betting company sees this action as a natural
extension of Paddy Power’s commitment to forging stronger links with the local
communities it services with internet gaming content. Additionally, the online
casino gaming company noted that it will also act as a way to bring people into
the church and perhaps more closely connect the racing culture of Suffolk with
the Catholic church – the Paddy Power representative even pondered “perhaps over
time confessing your sins in a Paddy Power confession box will become a
tradition for race-goers.”
There is no precise figure, but Paddy Power paid more than $15,000 for the right
to put an online casino plaque on the confessional box; surprisingly, the church
members in Suffolk had surprisingly little resistant to this new development,
and have actually been grateful that Paddy Power is looking to bridge the gap
between the Catholic Church and the gambling industry. |
