Admitting Problem with Online Casinos
The Australian news has been hot to pick up the latest story from the Aussie
sports industry – one of the country’s brightest football players has officially
come forward and admitted that he has a problem with online casino gambling and
betting. In fact, Brendan Fevola, playing forward for the Brisbane Lions, even
announced that he needs and will seek out counseling for his addiction. Fevola’s
announcement comes at a rocky time for the Australian online casino betting and
gambling industry and is only strengthening the government’s anit-internet
gambling position as of late. Fevola’s announcement is news to the world, but in
fact, Fevola first told his coach of the problems at the beginning of the year
and has been undergoing treatment since February.
Online casinos and betting in particularly are rocky ground for sporting
players; they are strictly forbidden from betting on teams and games within
their own sport and even any sort of association with the internet betting is
seen as suspect. Fevola though is well aware of the integrity in sports
protocols and assures that he has never once used the online casinos or land
bookies to bet on a football game – an action that could get him kicked out of
the Australian Football League for a time if the assertion proves false.
Fevola has come forward with the announcement and also notes that he will
continue to play footy and that his ability to play the game has not been at all
affected by his online caisno betting and gambling addiction. As an additional
note, Fevola’s debts are being noted as roughly $100,000 owed to three separate
Aussie bookies, a debt he is working on paying back now that he is in
counseling. |
