Is It a Victory?
Last Thursday’s ruling from the Kentucky Supreme Court has really confused a lot
of people within the online casino gambling industry – the media included!
Reports on the effects of this ruling have been really mixed over the past
several days, but a spokesperson for iMEGA, Joe Brennan has come out and
explained iMEGA’s interpretation of the situation and how this is actually an
indication that the online casinos may win the case in the Kentucky Supreme
Court against the state. November 2008 the state of Kentucky attempted to seize
the domain names of more than 140 gambling groups and sites merely in the
internet gambling field.
The Supreme Court’s ruling now asks that the individual online casinos facing
seizure and actually protesting this action come forth on their own accord and
outside of the cover of iMEGA, a trade organization acting on behalf of the
gambling sites. Brennan notes that this demand by the court is just a minor
stipulation that the Supreme Court would need in order to side in favor of the
online casinos – a mere stipulation holding up the works.
Brennan has openly claimed that the online casinos can likely win this case if
just one domain name owner is willing to come forward to contest the charges.
Then, the case would appeal once again directly to the Supreme Court, and the
Court has indicated that it has already thoroughly considered the case and would
likely hand down a new ruling very rapidly – a potential resolution that is
incredibly enticing for the gaming sites. |
