Washington Poker Players Targeted
The landscape of the United States online casino gambling industry is going to
change very rapidly if the gambling enforcement regulations do actually take
effect this coming summer. Although they have been postponed dozens of times
over the past several years, there is intense speculation that they might
actually pass into effect on June 1, 2010 as planned. The effects of this
happening would be huge; full enforcement regulations in the US would allow the
Department of Justice to begin prosecuting the online casinos and payment
processing companies that have been accessing US players and facilitating
transactions despite the ban on internet gambling. Initial reports and
speculation in the industry indicates that the FBI is actually currently
developing a case against Full Tilt Poker in anticipation of passing the
internet gambling enforcement regulations.
The rumors come from players themselves who have indicated that the FBI has
shown up at their door with questions regarding their use of Full Tilt Poker.
Interestingly, the FBI is focusing their attentions on the Washington State
poker users right now wholly because these poker players are more likely to
testify against Full Tilt than players from any other state. Washington State is
the only US state that has made online casino poker gambling fully illegal and
actually a felony offence – that means the FBI has leverage when it comes to
questioning the players…they are all more willing to speak against Full Tilt if
it means not facing criminal charges within the state.
These player reports that the FBI is gathering information is really the only
key information that indicates that the government is building a case against
Full Tilt. At this time, there is no indication that there are other online
casinos under investigation; that means the brunt of the force is going into the
Full Tilt case and if the enforcement regulations take effect it won’t take long
for the government to build the case and file charges against Full Tilt. |
