Just a Few More Stats
The Irish officials seem primed and ready to move forward on plans to greatly
expand the country’s online casino gambling industry – all they’re reportedly
waiting on is a more clear look at just precisely how many jobs will be
potentially created in the country as a result of new regulations and policies.
The initial reports were a bit overzealous in some regards; proponents of a full
Irish gambling industry for foreign online casinos may have slightly exaggerated
the job potential – or the call for Ireland as a potential licensing and
regulating jurisdiction. So while the Irish authorities feel that 8,000 jobs may
be a tad optimistic, adjusted figures still point to at least 5,000 new jobs
influxing the Irish marketplace.
The estimates from varied sources all seem to agree that Ireland has the very
real potential of becoming incredibly viable in online casino licensing matters
because of the country’s proximity to some of the UK and Europe’s largest
gambling markets. The Irish government hasn’t touched the nation’s gambling laws
in well over 50 years – and a lot has certainly happened in the interim! That
being said, although talks are now in the works, there is no guarantee that new
and open regulations will pass through the government into law even if the
country did fiercely desire internet gambling.
Currently, the vast majority of the licensing for UK and EU facing online
casinos occurs at offshore licensing jurisdictions. These offshore venues are a
last resort for some companies (like Ladbrokes and Will Hill) and regulations in
Ireland would be a huge relief and welcome change for companies that prefer to
be a bit closer to their immediate markets. |
