State of the Union: South Africa Edition
Let’s take a look at what South Africa is doing over the next year and how the
current online casino gambling situation is faring in the country. South Africa
is all talk these days about the coming World Cup – an international event that
is shinning a lot of light and focus on the country. South Africa has been
preparing venues and accommodation to handle the huge number of visitors that
will poor into the country in the days surrounding the World Cup. One bone of
contention that is still plaguing many foreign companies though is the lack of
gambling regulations for the online casinos and internet betting companies that
are vying for legal entry into the market so that they can be ready to place
bets and partake in the industry for the World Cup.
At this point the bulk of the official betting at the World Cup is not going to
take place at the online casinos, but rather at the land betting venues that
have been licensed to operate and are already setting up shop. Several of the
huge UK betting companies are already developing their land presence in
anticipation. The World Cup is really dominating the year for South Africa and
there are no attempts to look at what the online casino gambling industry will
look like in the months following the World Cup.
There have been critics throughout the sporting industry as well as the online
casino industry that have questioned South Africa’s ability to host such a huge
international event and the first half of the year will be wholly focused on
making sure that the event runs without any major glitches. After the World Cup
the internet casinos will likely force the regulation issue back into prominence
with an effort to force the new regulations to pass and take effect. |
