Regulations Riding Line
Regulating the online casino gambling industry is one of those fine line type
practices because it seems that no side of the industry is going to be
completely happy. The governments interested in regulating gambling are mostly
looking for the most opportune way to make money off of the gambling sites and
bring that money into the state coffers, while others genuinely take the
industry in the spirit of a global industry and regulate so that foreign
licensed online casinos are also welcome into their markets. But then, the
companies themselves are caught in the midst of these varying regulations from
country to country and are in limbo as to how to accommodate all of the
different requirements and taxes.
Belgium officials have plans to institute some pretty controversial changes to
the gambling laws in the country – changes that may upset the European
Commission if the Belgian officials are not careful about the precise
regulations for foreign, EU licensed online casinos. Basically, the more
controversial policies that are currently in Belgian draft regulations would
force foreign online casinos to obtain one of the limited numbers of Belgian
internet gambling licenses before they can operate legally in the market.
Then, as if obtaining a Belgian gaming license were not enough of a hurdle for
the online casino sites, the regulations would then require that the licensed
sites base their servers out of Belgium before offering service to Belgian
residence. Additionally, the state lottery would remain a monopoly and the
current Belgian Gambling Commission would take over overseeing the new internet
gambling regulations. |
