Paying to Keep Out Online Casinos
The State of Alabama has announced that the state has already spent well over
$500,000 to keep online casinos from operating within the state borders. That is
the price tag that the police force in the state are wracking up as they attempt
to stamp out forms of internet gambling. The rationale coming from the state
officials is that the amount of illegal gambling funds confiscated are more than
making up for the expenditures. Plus, the land and online casino gambling
industries are a popular war to be fighting in the United States right now and
the Alabama officials are in good company – Kentucky is also waging war against
forms of both land and internet gambling.
The money coming into the state right now figures in at roughly $1.3 million.
This amount of money is raided from the bingo halls and illegal land venues that
are not allowed to operate games of chance. The online casino gambling industry
is less of the focus of the fight though because offshore gaming sites are
harder to catch and thus that money is still be funneled out of the state and
there are few protocols in place to prevent the unwanted internet gambling
activity.
The fact is, the state is attempting to use the gambling raids as a way to bring
money into the state coffers as an alternative to taxing forms of land and
online casino gambling because it is so hard to nail down specific regulations
that will adequately control the internet gambling industry in particular.
Alabama is just the latest of the US states that is taking a new approach to
cracking down on gambling ventures, it’s skeptical if the state will have the
funds to continue supporting this level of police operations. |
