Iowa Striving for First
Gambling in the United States is really pushing forward at the individual state
level considering the long delays that have taken years for any federal changes
to take place. In the wake of the most recent recession, several US states have
announced plans to license and regulate forms of intrastate online casino
gambling. Foreign online casinos are still banned at the federal level, but
states like Iowa are on the fast track to fully making the changes necessary to
legalize poker gambling within the state. In fact, Iowa is striving to be the
first US state to officially implement the new regs and make all of the
necessary changes in local laws so that state gamblers will have access to a
state licensed site by the end of the year.
In addition to racing with the other states for the ability to claim the title
as the first state to allow legalized online casino gambling, the potential
revenues that are going to come out of this process are incredibly important to
budget stability and funding for states like Iowa. Regardless of the amount of
land gambling located within easy access of citizens of any state, gamblers are
still choosing to go online – and the internet casinos are the perfect way for
states to take advantage of benefiting from revenue that was previously leaving
the state and even leaving the country.
The Iowa legislators largely support this effort and are working together to
push through the new legislation rapidly. There is a fear that as well as losing
a lot of needed revenue for the state budget, that gamblers in the state are
also in danger because of the black market online casinos and poker sites
accepting bets and offering up game play to US players despite having clear
channels of payment. |
