French Compromising a Win

The French government has long talked about changing the current regulations that block foreign online casinos from operating in the market, but those changes have yet to really happen despite all of the talk. In fact, while the regulations are still in development and quite theoretical, the bans and blocks are actually being enforced in the country, quite to the detriment of the sporting industry according to some teams. For Olympique Lyonnais, or better known as Lyon, the soccer team took its latest major win as an opportunity to publicly lambaste the French government about blocking foreign gaming sites.

The Lyons received a lot of publicity for their big win against major rivals Real Madrid in the UEFA Cup that played just recently. The thing is, soccer clubs in France and throughout Europe use the sponsorship dollars as way to better fund training and jerseys, and a whole host of other necessities as teams travel around the world for their matches. The vast majority of other major sporting clubs in the EU are able to accept sponsorships from foreign online casino sports betting sites and Lyon feels that the French regulations are causing them serious setbacks.

Numerous online casino and sports betting sites are interested in sponsoring French teams, but at this point French monopolies have the only legal ability to do so, and are flatly not. The French team actually issued a low level threat of sorts, claiming that wins such as this recent win will not be possible at the competitive level in the future without foreign sponsorship dollars.
