Dramatic Event in Online Casino Poker
The land and online casino poker gambling industries are pretty sedate when it
comes to major news about violence and robberies – in fact, the poker scandals
at Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker were the last major news. But in a dramatic
development during this week’s Berlin Poker Tour, thieves attempted a major
robbery while the major poker tourney was taking place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.
The tournament is the largest annual poker tourney of its kind in Germany and
frequently features top land and online casino poker players from even beyond
Germany. The dramatic robbery was completely caught on camera since the event
was streaming live through a number of major web sites for poker enthusiasts.
The robbers were masked and entered the Grand Hyatt with huge machetes and
pistols – using just those weapons they blazed through the casino taking all of
the visible cash. The goal was likely to take the full Euro 3.68 million prize
pool of the Berlin Poker Tour. In actuality the thieves only managed to leave
with a much more conservative Euro 100,000 to Euro 300,000 – the final amount
has not yet been confirmed by the casino. Online viewers watched the drama
unfold and much of the footage is still available for viewing for those
interested.
There were, thankfully, only a handful of injuries resulting from the thugs
robbery attempt and several of those were security guards who attempted to stop
the robbery as it progressed. One security guard actually almost unmasked one of
the robbers, but was stopped in his efforts when an accomplice beat the guard
and then ran off. The investigation is well underway and the Poker Tour will
likely resume once the drama dies down and the investigators clear the scene. |
