Dangling a Carrot for Ireland
The Irish government has some tough choices ahead in the coming months as the
country makes some definitive moves toward regulation or blocking of certain
parts of the global gambling industry. At this point, Ireland has remained in a
state of flux where the laws are clear enough to keep the online casinos out of
the market, but they are broad enough that a freshening of sorts would severely
alter the landscape of gambling in the country. Speculation in the Irish market
right now indicates that the country could benefit from a huge surge of as many
as 8,000 jobs if the government updates gambling laws to allow foreign gambling
companies to reside on the Emerald Isle.
That is an enormous number of potential jobs for the country and the research
indicates that the figures are not actually that overblown, although 8,000 is
the top end of the expectations. Basically, to create that many jobs in the
Irish market Ireland would have to revamp online casino gambling laws and then
take a share of roughly five percent of the global internet gambling market. If
Ireland updates its gambling laws to allow online casinos to operate out of the
country, and if a favorable taxation structure is in place, Ireland would become
an absolutely perfect launching point for UK facing gambling sites.
The new online casino gambling laws are still going through the government, but
considering the last laws concerning the subject were passed in 1956, well
before the internet, most Irish lawmakers agree that it is time for the
officials to make a choice one way or the other and then pass regulations that
support that position. |
