Lobbying Dollars Calculated

The land and online casino gambling industries are big business in the United States and as with any big business, there is a lot of lobbying dollars making their way into the pockets of the lobbying firms. The idea of lobbying is that an industry or representative business is able to provide money to the lobbying firms and those firms ensure that the members of Congress, the decision makers in the US hear and understand the agenda of that particular industry. The online casinos and gambling industry are certainly not exempt from lobbying, and the American Gaming Association is actually spends a very large amount of money on lobbying dollars every year.

The new figures are now in, and the AGA has spent a whopping $345,000 in lobbying funds in the fourth quarter of last year alone. These funds have been spent in protest of legalizing a US online casino gambling industry, as well as in support of various other areas of interest to land gambling and gaming companies in the US. Some of the key topics facing the AGA at the end of last year were the Indian gaming laws in the country, as well as income tax laws and the online casinos.

The AGA is made up of some of the biggest hitters in the land gambling industry – all of the major companies that have gambling venues in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. These major gambling groups, Boyd Gaming, Harrah’s Entertainment, MGM Mirage, Las Vegas Sands Corps, among others all have very specific interests within land gambling. Harrah’s is the only gambling group in the US that has opted to invest in building up foreign online casinos that can compete internationally – an issue that is just coming up to the top of the agenda for the AGA.
