Belgium Attempting Changes
The European online casino gambling market has been changing steadily over the
past several years as the European Commission attempts to enforce universal
rules on all of the EU member states. Belgium is one of the smaller EU
countries, but the country packs quite a punch in the EU government in
actuality. The Belgian government is currently in the process of creating new
gambling regulations for the country that will regulate the online casinos and
provide further protections for this growing market in Belgium. The tricky part
of the whole situation though will be the keeping the regulations in line with
the ever-changing requirements and expectations from the Commission.
Belgium has a long history with the gambling industry, and unlike several EU
countries, Belgium is generally quite open to the various types of land and
internet gambling – everything from sports betting to poker, lotteries and even
the online casinos. Right now though, although the Belgium Gambling Commission
has strict rules in place for land gambling and lotteries, the regulations are
too old to also include the online casino side of the business. As the
government develops these new regulations it will be key that the Belgian
regulations steer clear of any sort of monopoly and allow outside foreign
internet gambling sites access to the market.
The Belgian gambling industry will remain robust and the government is really
looking to mostly make the changes necessary to protect Belgian problem and
underage gamblers from exploitation from the online casinos and gambling
companies. |
