More Action Against Online Casinos
The Chinese government is following through on last months announcement that the
country is actively cracking down on all illegal online casino gambling taking
place in the country. China is a huge country and many foreign gaming sites are
unable to resist the temptation to access this population and offer gambling,
even if the government is strictly against the activity. The Chinese people are
eager to access the online casinos despite the block and that is a motivating
factor for all of the gaming sites that offer Chinese language translation
services. The New Year though has brought about a reinvigorated attempt to fully
stamp out all illegal gambling and those Chinese citizens and foreigners who are
facilitating the activity in the country. The pastime is illegal in China and
now the government has given local authorities specific instructions to seek out
any and all individuals involved in the illegal online casino gambling industry.
The efforts are at the early side but the government has already announced that
918 suspects have been arrested – and that is just so far. China is very strict
on controls and the government is very serious about stamping out online casino
gambling in the country. Initial attempts to further censor the Chinese citizens
through internet filters was met with serious criticism and instead the
government decided that it would take local police action to fully stop the
activity in the country. China is massive and the already the police uncovered
more than 210 cases and counting. These cases are gambling rings as well as
actual persons who were recruiting for the online casinos and providing ways for
the Chinese citizens to access and process payments in with the foreign gaming
sites.
Although the online casino gambling is still rampant in China these initial
arrests are a strong first step toward effectively putting a stop to some of the
larger gambling rings. In truth though, it’s an effort that will cost China
millions to fully enforce, and even then the scope of the undertaking is likely
going to have holes in its effectiveness – in a country as large as China it’s a
bit impossible to think that bans are really going to stop such a pervasive
activity as online gambling. |
