Weighing 888 for US Action
The Nevada Gaming Control Board is in a precarious position right now; the Board
has now warned all Las Vegas land gambling companies holding a license to
operate a land casino to avoid signing agreements and entering into contracts
with offshore online casinos. Many Nevada gambling groups have begun to court
negotiations from offshore gambling groups in anticipation that the US market
will soon open up and allow wide-scale US internet gambling. These offshore
online casinos are looking for surefire ways back into the US market and
partnering with a major land gambling brand is a way to ensure that the company
will obtain a license from the federal government if the new regulations ever
take effect.
The Board though has issued out a warning to all of the Nevada licensed land
gambling companies that their potential partners in any arena, and particularly
the online casino gambling industry, must be approved by the board before
paperwork and contracts are signed. Harrah’s is the only US company that already
has a working relationship with an offshore gaming site and actually already
offers online casinos to foreign markets. In light of the existing agreement the
Board is investigating 888 to determine if the company is a suitable and
reputable partner.
Despite the fact that 888 Holdings encountered issues with the US Department of
Justice, the Board is likely to approve this current partnership – both because
888 is a strong and reputable European brand and also because it’s one of those
nearly unenforceable situations should the board determine that Harrah’s online
casino activity in Europe is inappropriate. |
