Skill Gaming for US
The United States’ stance on internet gaming and gambling is confusing and has
left a lot of companies avoiding any possible interaction within the market for
fear of legal action from the US Department of Justice. In the more than three
years since the implementation of the US’ Unlawful Internet Enforcement Act,
which specifically bans offshore online casinos from the market, the offshore
companies have a more clear understanding (moderately) of the specifics within
the market and what will and will not flag action from the US Department of
Justice. Skill gaming is one of the fast emerging sectors of the US gaming
market that is largely untapped but full legal under the legislation of the
UIGEA.
To that end, the Virgin Group is now making a strong move into the US market
with the acquisition of World Gaming. This new acquisition indicates a that this
international online casino gambling group (among so many other trades) is
interested in entering the US internet video skill gaming industry. Skill gaming
has unique dispensations in the US and does not flag the UIGEA blocks because
unlike the online casinos, skill gaming does not rely on chance and therefore
real money gaming is allowed and can be lucrative for the offering companies.
The skill gaming market in the United States is wide open for new companies and
is a great way for offshore online casino gambling groups to establish a
foundation in the US market and brand recognition at the early stages in
anticipation that chance internet gambling will eventually find legalization in
the US market. |
