Situation Breakdown
Harrah’s Entertainment is at the beginning stages of what is shaping up to be a
very long legal battle with a current sponsor of the 2010 World Series of Poker,
although that sponsorship agreement is strongly up for debate right now.
Harrah’s and the online caisno poker site Everest Poker are in a fierce legal
battle that is really getting a bit ridiculous as the two companies continue to
sue each other over the current WSOP situation instead of working on the
corporate level to find a solution. The courts have now been involved and the
online casino poker site has filed two full lawsuits against Harrah’s, the
owners of the illustrious and popular WSOP brand. Harrah’s has joined into the
lawsuit action right now and filed a lawsuit against the internet poker site for
non-payment of funds – the entire situation is turning into a major case of
“he-said-she-said.”
On the one hand, Everest Poker had legitimate concerns that the exclusive right
to advertise on the felt at the World Series of Poker was superseded by one of
the networks covering the WSOP event. On the other hand, Harrah’s Entertainment
clearly explained the situation and attempted to work with the online casino
poker site to better understand why the French television network replaced the
Everest logo with a competitor. Both sides have valid concerns that were
actually minor enough to be solved with better communication between the online
casinos and land based Harrah’s gambling group.
Harrah’s has continued to honor the Everest Poker sponsorship deal throughout
the WSOP and fully expects payment from the online casino poker site for the
advertising and sponsoring that is occurring. Everest though has attempted to
withdraw sponsorship and is denying that the WSOP has any right to use the
Everest logo on table felts or other WSOP activities and locations. |
