World Cup Revealing Rings
Online casinos and internet betting are illegal activities throughout most of
Asia right now, but most particularly in China. The Chinese authorities have
pretty much announced that they are waging war on the illegal internet betting
rings throughout the country and the prevalence of FIFA World Cup betting is
proving as the perfect way for Chinese police to better track down and stop some
of the larger betting rings in the country. In addition to the major bust in the
Jiangsu Province of China, Hong Kong authorities just announced raids on a major
online casino betting ring that was taking in an estimated HK $66 million in
World Cup bets over the past several weeks.
The Hong Kong police arrested 25 people in connection with the online casino
gambling raid and the World Cup betting is what prompted the police to
infiltrate the ring. The police raided the betting ring within a week of the
start of the World Cup games and authorities allege that the gambling ring was
taking bets from all over China via telephone and online. Although not a formal
internet casino betting site, these rings use money laundering schemes to take
internet based bets and yet claim the money through other means.
Interestingly, Hong Kong is not actually full against betting as is the case in
many other countries and cities in Asia, but the betting is only legal through
the Hong Kong jockey club and online casino wagering is strictly illegal and
remains that way. |
