Bad Rap Understandable

The international online casino gambling industry often has a bad reputation in pockets of society all over the world because of the illicit and illegal activity that sometimes accompanies the gambling industry. The arrest this week of a potential Russian spy who was using a claimed online casino gambling site as her reasoning for communications with Russia is only one more layer that adds onto the criticism and doubt. The fact is that the large amount of cash that changes hands every single day as the nature of the internet gambling industry is a weak point – the online casinos have to work very hard every single day and use a lot of rapid technology to ensure that any suspicious behavior flags the system and can be stopped.

Money laundering is one of the main concerns, but apparently the industry can be also used to even justify communications with another government and country. In the case of Anna Chapman, she has now been arrested on the grounds of spying on the US government for Russian interests and using claims that she was looking for online casino investors to cover for her communications. It’s such a shame though that these types of cases get such high profile attention all over the world because it is not actually a reflection of the gambling sites – all of the major companies go to great lengths to ensure that they are monitoring transactions and using software to track behavior and suspicious betting patters.

Right now the online casinos are fighting an uphill battle against international media because sensationalism always seem to win out – even over direct honesty.
