Video Game Betting Questionable
The United States’ decision to make the offshore online casino gambling industry
illegal has now led to the current trend in the US, questionable sites. The US
internet gambling industry is potentially worth billions over time and this
potential is scarcely being tapped by the current legal forms of betting and
gaming – and particularly not by the land gambling industry. A Canadian born US
resident has just launched a new gaming platform that will push and test the
specifications within the UIGEA by offering online betting on skill based video
games.
Francisco Diaz-Mitoma has just announced the launch of the Titan Platform which
is specifically designed to allow betting on multiplayer console and computer
games. The Titan Platform, developed and being released by Titan Gaming Inc, has
a lot of potential to succeed and pass the UIGEA filters because the betting is
entirely based on skill gaming, an internet based pastime that is still legal in
the US. The UIGEA is specifically against the type of chance gaming you find in
the online casinos but skill gaming is a whole other arena, even if it includes
video game betting – at least that’s what Diaz-Mitoma is hoping.
Diaz-Mitoma has designed the software to only work with games of skill because
that way it will not trigger the federal government’s online casino radar. The
scale of the betting is also very small and is designed for more casual game
play. All of this being said, the actual legality of the Titan Platform is still
up in the air; the federal government has not cleared the wagering method so it
is still unclear how long Titan will run. |
