Oil Spill Feeding Bets
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill has gone from a sudden and shocking disaster to
a slowly horrifying mess of epic proportions that will affect the US and global
ecosystems for decades to come – a situation that is still developing as the BP
oil company continues to struggle and flounder on how to clean up the spill. The
situation has now gone on so long that the online casinos, Paddy Power in
particular, are now offering odds on the likelihood that BP will be forced to
declare bankruptcy by the end of the year. Not only is BP faced with cleaning up
the continuously growing oil spill, but the US is now levying fines on BP for
every day that the Deepwater Horizon spill continues to spew oil into the Gulf
of Mexico – and those hefty fines are a piece of why the online casino betting
companies feel it very likely that BP will go under some time this year.
The US Stock Exchange seems to be in agreement with the online casinos because
the BP stock prices have plummeted over the past several months as everyone on
Wall Street has backed out of association with BP and are now just watching the
slow demise of this once major US petroleum company. The fact though is simple,
the Deepwater Horizon spill has been so vast and damaging that the online
casinos, along with bettors do not feel that BP can ever come back from this
situation. Not only is the company in financial dire straights, but the trust
and reputation has been completely annihilated.
Online casinos are only currently offering odds on the likelihood that BP will
file for bankruptcy but no odds on the companies odds at staying functioning and
potentially profitable. The odds of failure by the end of the year come in at
4-1 and only time will tell how fast this company sinks in the coming months. |
