Possibilities for Newfoundland Gaming
Nearly every single region of Canada is in a flux right now over the development
and implementation of new online casino licensing laws in the country. The
Canadian government has taken a hands off approach to internet gambling
regulations for the past several years and thus the Canadian provinces are
working together to build a joint regulation structure that will create a strong
foundation for gambling in the country as well as send gambling tax revenues
into the provincial budgets. Canada has not been exempt from the recession and
tough economy and the provincial governments are really motivated by a need for
more controlled revenue streams.
The Atlantic Lottery Corporation out of Newfoundland is one of the oldest
gambling companies in the country and is owned jointly by the governments within
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador. These four provincial
governments are discussing the possibility of allowing the ALC online casino
gambling licenses that would take the gaming content to a whole new level with
more than just lottery games, but also now internet poker and possibly other
games of chance. The governments are concerned about the level of illegal online
casino gambling in the country from illegal offshore companies accessing the
regulatory void that is Canada.
The potential is really strong right now for a full and well regulated online
casino gambling market that allows the Canadian government more robust controls
over the types of gambling permitted as well as the companies accessing Canadian
gamblers. The four provinces are currently discussing the possibilities and
feasibility of implementing these new regulatory ideas. |
