Less Online Casino Exclusivity
The Aussie online casino gambling market is one of the more controversial in the
industry right now because the Aussie officials are not taking the
recommendations or suggestions of any outside forces and are instead proceeding
on a path that will only lead to a debacle in terms of prohibiting internet
gambling sites and creating an underground market for the industry. The recent
Productivity Commission report that was published and given to the Aussie
officials contained a full list of recommendations and suggestions related to
both the land and online casinos and how the Aussie government should proceed
with regulations and legislation for the two related industries. One of the key
recommendations was that the state governments end exclusivity with the land
betting and gambling groups and instead create a more open global marketplace
that welcomes, monitors, and controls foreign competition.
Two major Aussie companies hold exclusive licenses for the market, Tabcorp and
Tatts; the Commission recommended that these licenses should not be renewed next
time and the government should instead aim to have a whole new land and online
casino licensing system in place that welcomes foreign competition into
Australia, taxes those sites, and offers specific regulations and protections
for the Aussie gambling public. The Commission’s report argues that monopolies
are no longer appropriate in the current market and that a regulated market that
offers competitive odds on betting as well as land and online casino gambling is
more in tune with the current state of the market, technologies, and
expectations.
In addition to opening the market to foreign competition it would also offer the
current state licensed land betting companies to expand into new areas and enjoy
a whole new stream of revenue and gamblers. This recommendation though, along
with nearly all of the others, has not been followed by government officials. |
