Lesniak's Argument for Online Casinos
Ray Lesniak is the most prominent voice coming out of the State of New Jersey
right now as a very pro-regulation politician who feels like the state is in a
perfect position to regulate and license online casinos for operation only
within the state. Although there are a few mixed opinions on how these gaming
sites will operate while the UIGEA is in place, the New Jersey politicians,
along with other US state governments feel that a legalized intrastate online
casino gambling industry is well within their rights as long as all of the
parties involved are located within the state in question. Lesniak is leading
the way for new regulations in New Jersey despite the protests coming out of
Atlantic City right now. And although he has many points supporting the
legalization of the money Lesniak is most completely pushing the notion that
legalized internet gambling sites running through land based gambling companies
will be the perfect way to revitalize the state gambling industry while saving
land based companies from the severe financial losses of the past two years.
Lesniak points to the fact that the state is losing billions of dollars right
now in online casino gambling funds that are going out of the state to offshore
venues despite the UGIEA’s federal ban on these sites. US gamblers are still
able to access and play at the illegal gambling sites and since there are no
legal US sites in operation right now every single US state is losing the tax
potential on that money. In a state like New Jersey, where the gambling revenues
that come through Atlantic City are an important part of the state budget, the
online casinos provide a new way to boost those revenues and keep both the
budget flush and the land gambling groups operating.
The real benefit for Atlantic City is that the online casino gambling
legalization would give these gambling groups a much farther reach. In fact,
they would now have potential access to every gambler in the state no matter how
far they live from the epicenter of gambling, Atlantic City. It’s a rare
opportunity considering the UIGEA blocks offshore online gambling but yet does
not have the jurisdiction to stop these sites from operating within the state
lines. |
