France Issuing More Licenses
The French government has finally released the second round of licensing in the
country this week and that means that French players will now have access to
even more gambling opportunities than they did when the first round of licensing
was completed. France is in a peculiar situation right now because the country
has launched new gambling regulations that do not actually comply fully with the
EU requirements and yet the European Commission has not done a lot to stop
France and force further compliance. The French regulations that came into
effect this month are far better then the monopoly that was in place previously
but is still far from ideal.
The main concern with the new online casino gambling regulations is the fact
that some aspects of the industry have remained a monopoly – it’s mostly
internet betting that has been opened to foreign competition. This regulatory
oversight is not sitting right with some companies interested in internet poker
and online casinos. The second round of licensing though is what is prompting
renewed objections, the French licensing committee has just chosen the next five
gambling sites that are able to legally offer gambling in the market.
These newly licensed online casino betting sites include: ChiliPoker, FriendBet,
PokerStars, LuckyJeux and Party Gaming. There are also other sites operating in
the market but these are now five of the companies that are legally able to
offer internet betting services to French gamblers – France also intends to
license another round of sites in the coming weeks and months but the licensing
process takes time to review before the sites are approved so companies with
smaller names are not often immediately licensed. |
