Online Casinos Cause Second Guessing
Last month’s announcement that a long-standing detractor of a legalized online
casino gambling industry has done an about face still galls a bit. Oregon
Congressional Representative Earl Blumenauer announced that the Ways and Means
Committee hearing had swayed the politician into support for internet gambling
and he noted that the ban he once supported is actually hypocritical. The
galling part of the situation though is the fact that the potential money of
legalized online casinos is really what turned this situation around. Within the
recent Way sand Means Committee hearing the supporters of internet gambling were
sure to highlight the amount of tax revenue that this industry will bring the US
once legalized and fully regulated.
Blumenauer is not the only politician who perked up at the money part of the
situation. The online casino industry is incredibly lucrative for state
governments because they are able to skim a percentage for the price of
operating in the US right off of the top of all of the US gambling revenues.
Blumenauer noted a very true fact – that banning online casinos and yet allowing
legal horserace betting and fantasy sports leagues was hypocritical of the
government and that there were better and more applicable solutions that can
control and shape the US gambling market.
One of Blumenauer’s main reasons for supporting the new bills to legalize online
casinos in the US is not only the money though, it’s also about the US jobs that
will be created once new internet gambling regulations pass through into law.
New jobs and new tax revenues supporting job building programs is the ideal and
something that is desperately needed right now to re-stabilize the US economy
and pull the US out of the final dregs of the recession. |
