Disenchanted with the iPhone
Online casino gamblers in the United States were quite disappointed this month
with the release of the highly anticipated iPhone 4 because the device still
does not have US internet gambling capability. Apple has long blocked any sort
of gambling applications from the iTunes store which means that mobile gambling
from the iPhone via a simple application was impossible. Global outcry though
has forced apple to reconsider the online casinos, at least in foreign markets.
The US market still has the UIGEA in place and it seems that the new iPhone 4
device errs on the side of caution by still not allowing internet gambling use
through the iPhone device – a new feature on foreign models that US residents
had hoped would also be available on US devices.
The demand for online casino gambling is rising all over the world and it’s
interesting that Apple has chosen to take the fight right to the company’s
doorstep by blocking gambling apps in the US despite the demand. The slight is
especially present right now because the World Cup games are still going on and
internet gamblers in the US were actually really hoping that their devices would
support the Betfair application that was approved for foreign iPhone devices,
just not the US ones. This is certainly not the only complaint with the iPhone
4, there are dozens of other features that are missing besides access to the
online casinos that has technophiles complaining, but for US gamblers, the lack
of gambling features is a deal breaker.
Some of the complaints against the iPhone are completely justified but downright
bizarre (such as the fact that lefties almost wholly lose signal when holding
the device). The online casino gambling slight though is actually understandable
because the US government still has the federal ban in place – so although the
internet ban is frustrating, it’s also completely understandable that Apple
continues to make this move. |
