Apple Denies Online Casino Sites
Buzz right now is really heavy about the iPhone 4 was released just last week
and the device is not allowing US residents to download the new Betfair online
casino betting app that allows UK and European residents access to World Cup
betting right from their iPhone devices. There was a lot of talk in the industry
that Apple would have lightened up their US restrictions as well since US
residents are demanding access to the online casinos and betting sites despite
the UIGEA. Apple though is taking the safety route by forcing US gamblers to
adhere to the US gambling laws at least on their mobile devices – likely as a
way to ensure they are not implicated as a culprit company complicit in
supporting an illegal US internet gambling industry.
There has been debate about whether it is Apple’s responsibility to keep the
iPhone users off of the online casinos or if the company would be better served
by turning a blind eye to the situation and allowing internet gambling
applications to run through iTunes. It’s a tough call though because the US
Department of Justice is on the war path right now and the UIGEA violations by
offshore online casino sites is primly within the DoJ’s focus – for that reason
US based companies are really looking at the best ways to stay well within the
unclear and poorly worded UIGEA.
US online casino gamblers though are simply frustrated with the entire situation
and Apple happens to be an easy target since the new legislation regarding
internet gambling is moving so slowly through Congress. |
