The Politicians Decide
The state of California is pretty broke right now, the government is out of cash
and there are very few viable options that will create and generate the level of
revenue that the state will need to really affect any sort of change. That’s
where the online casino poker situation comes into debate. Several strong
politicians have begun to argue hard for the legalization of intrastate poker
gambling that is fully regulated and taxed by the California gambling
authorities. Land gambling in the state is already maxed out on the Indian
reservations and the online casinos are federally illegal. But the game of poker
is a whole different story, there is a strong movement to consider poker a skill
based game and thus worthy of full and unregulated access to US gamblers.
The California politicians are wise not to argue this point, but rather to fight
for the legislature approval on bills that would give online poker sites legal
and regulated access. Indian gaming reservations would also have access to
licensed internet poker gambling. The politicians wisely argue that the state of
California is losing a lot of potential tax revenue every single day because US
citizens are forced to look toward the banned offshore online casinos for poker
and chance gaming action.
The legislature in California has now thoroughly debated the pros and cons of
legalized online poker gambling in the state (and only for California residents
to avoid issues with the UIGEA) and the measure is up for vote. The money making
potential is huge and it is thought by the online casinos and internet poker
companies that this could be a huge swaying factor for legislators. |
